Wib chapter 1
Chiraz and the Chrichi's women community.
The Chrichi women community is a proposal for the first chapter of a long term project named
“Women in Between”. A trans media narrative focus on women conditions on both side of the Mediterranean sea. A journey along six countries: Tunisia, Italy, Morocco, Spain, Greece and Turkey with
the aim to narrate: Love, Honour and Shame.
Chrichi is a poor neighborhood of El Kef, Nothern Tunisia where normally live women who come
from the country side like Chiraz and Wassila. Chiraz had her two daughters out of marriage. Chiraz suffered a lot because her condition of single mother. Until now she doesn’t have any contact
with her family. When she moved to Kef she knew Wassila. Her and her husband have became her new family. They live all together in a simple house where the women of the same neighborhood meet up
day and night. In Tunisia single mothers often called “social cases” are socially excluded and most of the times exiled from their homes. The status of the single mother is absent in Tunisia and
lacks a legal framework for there protection. As a result lots of women abandon there children or are strongly encouraged to get rid of their native status to avoid social marginalization and
save their child misfortune. Often, exiled from their families and hometowns, they find help to the shelters of NGO’s, where assistant and accommodation is provided on this transitory state of
their lives. For further informations about Women in Between visit our web side: http://www.women-inbetween.com © Maboula collective production.
